Capt. Kenneth King, retired state trooper

Capt. Kenneth S. King (Ret.), 76, passed away peacefully at Renaissance Healthcare in Millsboro Sunday, Oct. 23 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ken was born and raised in New Castle County and moved to Sussex County in 1998. He retired as a captain in the Delaware State Police in 1980. He was also a licensed real estate agent and worked corporate security for J.R. Gettier & Associates.

Ken is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ann Louise King (née Haigh); his sons Jay and his wife Amie, and Michael; his treasured grandchildren Ariel and Makenzie; and his brother Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Blanche (Thomas) King; as well as his beloved Rottweiler Zeus.

Ken was a lifetime member of the ARDSP and a member of the New Castle County Board of Realtors. He served as a reservist in the National Guard during the Korean War. He enjoyed walking his dogs, riding his bike, and being outdoors. He participated in the Bike to the Bay several years and raised money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Ken always made time to go to the gym and to swim.

Friends and family are invited to attend a service at noon, Friday, Oct. 28, at Melson’s Funeral Home, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow at Conley’s Methodist Cemetery in Lewes.
