Caring Transitions eases moving stress for seniors, families

Relocation, estate-clearing company ready to help, even during pandemic

Seniors and their families looking to ease the stress of moving or downsizing can turn to Caring Transitions of Southern Delaware, a new, senior-focused relocation and estate-clearing company.

Deemed an essential service during the current state of emergency, Caring Transitions provides services to manage a senior move, including clearing out the home of a loved one who has moved into assisted care or passed away, said owner Stacey Himler.

“I lost my mom a few years ago, and I spent a lot of time trying to help my dad go through her stuff and trying to find homes for the things she loved,” Himler said. “I ended up donating a lot of it, but I realized there had to be a better, more streamlined way for seniors and families to go through that process.”

Himler said Caring Transitions’ services include a free initial consultation that is used to create a customized plan for each client, from organizing and packing to preparing homes for market.

“We can do all packing and logistics, so on the day of the move, clients can do what they want, and we’ll take care of everything else, from hanging pictures, putting clothes in the closet, making beds and getting rid of boxes so they can walk into a new space that feels like home.”

Any unneeded home items can be disposed of, donated or sold through Caring Transitions’ online auction.

“There are companies out there who can help you move, downsize, clear out an estate or host an auction, but we’re unique because we can provide all of those services,” Himler said.

Himler and her husband worked in the defense industry in Connecticut before deciding to move to Sussex County.

“The people are so friendly here,” she said. “This is a way to help the older community, and we are here to make transitions as smooth and stress-free as possible for everyone involved.”
