Carol Dean Baker Elliott, retired nurse

Carol Dean Baker Elliott, 79, of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025. She was born May 14, 1946, in Milford, daughter of the late James Woodrow Wilson Baker and Bessie Maude (Davidson) Baker.

Carol graduated from Georgetown High School in 1964 and went on to earn her bachelor of science in nursing from University of Delaware School of Nursing in 1968. She was employed by the State of Delaware in two capacities, working first as a nurse at the Stockley Center from 1968–72 and later at the Sussex County Health Clinic in Georgetown from 1972–98.During her 26 years at the clinic, she worked her way up from public health nurse I to PHN supervisor, ultimately retiring as clinic manager in February 1998.  

Carol dedicated her life to caring for others through her work in public health. Her warm spirit, steady hands, and compassionate heart touched countless patients, families, and coworkers throughout her career.

In her spare time, Carol enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought joy and comfort to her days. She loved reading, playing computer games on her Fire tablet, laughing at cat videos on TikTok, and spending time watching Hallmark and Lifetime movies. Traveling was another favorite pastime, whether it was a special trip through her timeshare or a quiet getaway. She had a deep love for animals, especially her cherished feline companions she leaves behind, Tillie and Goldie. Carol and Harry also spent many years with their beloved dogs, Lady, Floppy, and Cuddles, as well as a host of chickens, ducks, and bunnies.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Harry J. Elliott; her sister, Anita Marie Wright; and her sister-in-law, Karen Baker.

She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly, her siblings, Myrna Lee (Joe) Smith, Wilson Wayne (Frances) Baker, David Allan Baker and J. Denise Baker; her nephews, Mark (Kristen) Baker, Matthew (Brooke) Baker and Kevin (Heather) Wright; her nieces, Sherry (Chris) Murray, Jodie (Terry) Reynolds, Holly (Chris) Baker, Heather (Kevin) Atkins, Lori (Dennis) Vieira and Dawn Baker; her stepson, Harry Dale (Kimberly) Elliott; her grandchildren, Logan (Brittany) Richardson, Ashlyn Elliott (Kaden) and Brooke Elliott (Ernie); and her great-granddaughters, Lainey and Lacey Richardson. She is also survived by many great-nieces and -nephews. In addition, she will be dearly missed by two very special friends, Annette Fleming and Sandra Keene.

Services will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brandywine Valley SPCA, bvspca.org; or the American Heart Association, heart.org, both of which were causes close to Carol’s heart.
