Caroling on The Circle moves inside

Rain can’t dampen holiday event and annual Sussex food collection drive
December 10, 2019

Because of rain, the 36th annual Caroling on The Circle was moved to the Georgetown Fire Company just a block away. The move inside didn’t dampen spirits of the season as hundreds turned out for the event with the goal of drawing attention to Sussex County government’s annual food drive.

Monday night’s caroling event, along with collections from Sussex County Council, county employees, numerous schools, groups and businesses leading up to the event, helped this year’s preliminary total reach 26,227 food items. With several weeks still left in the drive, the county hopes to take the final total even higher by the new year.

The public can continue to drop off canned goods and nonperishable food items from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the county administrative offices building on The Circle or the west complex offices on Route 113, both in Georgetown. The food drive will continue until Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Items collected will be donated to approximately 20 area pantries, shelters and church organizations for distribution within Sussex County.
