Carved Ink Studio hosts flash fundraiser for Grass Roots Rescue

Women-owned local businesses pitch in as well

The mark left from a loving relationship with an adopted dog can be one that never leaves. Perhaps, that’s why Carved Ink Studio decided to host the inaugural Fall Tattoo Flash Fundraiser to help raise funds for Grass Roots Rescue. Carved Ink Studio co-owner and tattoo artist Ben Leadlove offered $100 tattoos at his Lewes studio Oct. 16, donating the money raised to the animal adoption group.

Leadlove worked on 18 people from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., raising $1,800 for Grass Roots Rescue in the process. The talented artist said he had done similar fundraisers in the past, but this was his first time going solo for a cause. Customers could choose between Halloween- and animal-themed tattoos for the fundraiser, and Carved Ink Studio donated the proceeds to Grass Roots Rescue. Co-owner and Vice President Tabitha Corjito said $2,500 was raised thanks to additional fundraising through a raffle and the other vendors who came to the event.

Joining Carved Ink Studios and Grass Roots Rescue were women-owned local businesses @momswhomakesh**, November Clay, and Bountiful Bowls. Two of the businesses are internet-based for now, and the event offered a marketplace for them to sell their creations, while contributing to a good cause. Bountiful Bowls sells açaí bowls, smoothies and more healthy goodness at its store off Savannah Road in Lewes.

Blondie and Ava were two of the dogs available for adoption, and they greeted guests at the Grass Roots Rescue tent as customers and supporters entered the studio.

Corjito said the fundraiser will be an annual event at Carved Ink Studios. To check out Leadlove’s designs and for more information about the tattoo shop, go to benleadlove.com.

Furthering the mission, Grass Roots Rescue is gearing up for the fourth annual Heels and Hooch Gala Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center in Rehoboth Beach. This year’s theme is The Masquerade. More information on the gala and fostering or adopting dogs is available at grrde.org.
