Carvil ‘Howard’ Perdue, lifelong farmer

Carvil "Howard" Perdue, 93, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.  He was born July 5, 1918, son of the late Carvil H. and Helen R. (Sloyer) Perdue.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Perdue, who died in infancy; and one sister, Dorothy Carlisle, who died in 2001.

Formerly of Kimberton, Pa., Mr. Perdue attended Berwyn High School and was a member of the United Church of Christ in Chester Springs, Pa.

Howard was a farmer all of his life and even after retiring to Lewes 24 years ago, he loved to plant a garden, feed the birds and go fishing.

Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Dorothy R. (Tripler) Perdue, whom he married June 3, 1939; one daughter; Lois Kern of Lewes; two sons, Carvil H. Perdue of Chipley, Fla. and Larry Perdue of Pottstown, Pa.; one brother, Walter Perdue of West Chester, Pa.; three sisters, Mary McMonagle of Florida and Margaret Brown and Louise Pratt, both of West Chester; two granddaughters, Diana Salkovitz and Diane Perdue; and two great-grandchildren, Jake and Jordyn Salkovitz.

A memorial service and interment will be scheduled for a later date in West Chester.
