Nassau Commons Boulevard reopens near Lewes

Work complete to expand section of roadway
July 28, 2025

After a months-long closure, Nassau Commons Boulevard west of Five Points near Lewes has reopened.

The roadway that provides an access to the Redner’s Fresh Market and a host of other businesses, reopened to traffic July 28. The road is also frequently used by drivers to travel from Route 1 to Route 9.

Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman Charles “CR” McLeod said the Vineyards developer chose not to construct the road to state standards. As a result, it will not be inspected or accepted by DelDOT, and will not be maintained by DelDOT. Only the Route 9 improvements will be inspected, so the state will have no oversight over any of Nassau Commons Boulevard, McLeod said.

DelDOT previously told the developer it could not continue the Vineyards project until the roadwork was complete and a traffic light is installed at the intersection of Route 9 and Nassau Commons Boulevard.

A few weeks ago, McLeod said the traffic signal would not be installed when the road project was complete. As of July 28, work has not started on the traffic signal.
