November 15, 2015

Casa San Francisco in Milton opened its doors to the public Nov. 5 for a dedication ceremony celebrating a new building that provides emergency shelter resources and support.

Casa San Francisco's new two-story facility, completed earlier this year, provides more room for emergency shelter services, food storage and food drives, community-based programs, and counseling services, including basic needs services, immigration services and mental health counseling.

“Not only does our new facility enable us to provide services to our residents in a manner that respects their dignity and does not compromise their privacy, but it also allows for Catholic Charities to provide a greater number of services to the community as a whole,” said Richelle Vible, Catholic Charities executive director.

The new, larger facility, at 127 Broad St. in Milton, offers a multipurpose room, laundry facility, kitchen, five private staff offices, two food storage spaces, a handicap-accessible bathroom, a client resource room and five bedrooms, three of which are handicap-accessible.

Casa San Francisco provides emergency shelter services for up to 12 people, provides food for more than 400 families each month as well as emergency food supplies, winter jackets and other services.

Casa San Francisco Program Manager Melinda Woolf said, “I'm overjoyed to be able to provide services with dignity and respect and grateful the community is so supportive of those services."
