Dogfish Head receives approval for tank repair project

Production to be shut down over April 11 weekend
April 9, 2026

Dogfish Head’s Weekend of Compelling Ales and Spirits in Milton is set to coincide with the Weekend of Tank Repair.

A brewery representative addressed town council April 6 to ask for approval to do work on Sunday, as it plans a four-day project to make repairs on its wastewater treatment tank over the weekend of April 11-12. In Milton, construction work is prohibited on Sunday unless the contractor is able to show good cause.

Dogfish Head’s Jason King told council the project is weather dependent, and with sunny skies in the forecast for Friday, April 10 through Monday, April 13, the company wanted to move ahead now.

The work involves refinishing the metal roof of the treatment tank. On April 10 and 11, the old finish would be sandblasted off, and refinishing would take place April 12 and 13, using DuraChem, a product similar to Flex Seal. The tank is located at the rear of the main brewery building and backs up to the Chestnut Crossing development. Dogfish already has an existing 12-foot privacy fence there, and King said efforts will be made to minimize noise from the sandblasting.

The project will temporarily shut down brewing production at Dogfish, but King said part of the timing was because this weekend will include the Weekend of Compelling Ales and Spirits April 11 and the company’s Benevolence Day April 13, with the brewery closed to the general public, in addition to its regular closing on Sunday.
