Celebration on the Broadkill events slated Aug. 26
The Milton Chamber of Commerce will hold its Celebration on the Broadkill from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, with convenient parking and shuttle service from Dogfish Head Brewery.
Three signature events taking place at Milton Memorial Park in historic Milton are Bargains on the Broadkill, Irish Eyes Milton’s Broadkill River Canoe and Kayak Race, and the Great Duck Race.
Bargains on the Broadkill takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., bringing together locals, visitors and southern Delaware entrepreneurs. Attendees will enjoy fun and festivities including juried artisans, crafters, food, and entertainment. They can take time to visit downtown shops, restaurants and attractions, too.
The 24th Annual Irish Eyes Milton’s Broadkill River Canoe and Kayak Race will begin at 10 a.m. This race is open to everyone. Participants can explore the scenic Broadkill River, and winners take home bragging rights. Entrants compete in various categories including single kayak, tandem kayak, tandem canoe, four-person canoe and stand-up paddleboard. Race entry fees include race T-shirts and a post-race party. To register, go to irisheyespub.com or sign up starting at 9 a.m. on event day.
The Great Duck Race begins at 2 p.m. when thousands of rubber ducks will be released into the Broadkill River while spectators cheer them on. The entrant whose duck is the first to cross the finish line will receive a cash prize of $500 from the Milton Chamber of Commerce. Another 24 winners receive cash prizes donated by chamber members. Duck sponsorship prices are one for $5, or five for $20. Participants can sponsor or purchase a duck prior to the event by emailing chamber@historicmilton.com or do so the day of the event.
Karen Falk, chamber executive director, said, “Our chamber events would not be possible without the support of our volunteers and our Community Champion sponsors Avery Hall, Bayhealth, Beebe Healthcare, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty, Children’s Beach House, Dogfish Head, Holland Jewelers, The Julie Gritton Team, Linda Vista Real Estate Services, Debbie Balick - Holistic Life Coach, Irish Eyes, Southern Delaware Tourism, State Farm - Jeanine O’Donnell and Techno Goober.”
