I made a decision on Christmas Day to get up and move, so my decision to go walk the Rehoboth Boardwalk (with some lovely detours into town) made for a very fulfilling morning. While out and about, each and every person I saw strolling along was sure to wish me a happy holiday if I didn't greet them first. What a great time to be in Rehoboth.
When I was stopped and checking my messages, a woman was walking by, smiled and said hello to me. I said hello back, and then realized I'd recognized her from somewhere. As she went on a bit farther, it occurred to me I'd seen and heard her many times on the City of Rehoboth Beach's YouTube channel. It was Commissioner Suzanne Goode.
I approached her – reluctantly, only because I didn't want to interrupt someone's walk – and asked her if she was indeed Commissioner Goode. She confirmed that she was and was completely gracious, insisting that I call her Suzanne, and taking time to chat. I'd like to take the time now to publicly thank Commissioner Goode (sorry, Suzanne) again for her warmth and good humor. It was evident to me how deeply she feels about Rehoboth and her constituents, and her willingness to engage with a Delaware native back on a day trip spoke volumes about her character.
I'm sure all of the commissioners would be as accessible, but running into Suzanne Goode unexpectedly – and on Christmas Day, of all days – one couldn't blame her for needing to rush off. Instead, she took the time to talk to someone. It means a lot. Rehoboth is lucky to have her.
