Charles L. Duvall Jr., company vice president

Charles L. Duvall Jr., 88, of Millsboro, formerly of Burtonsville, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at his home.

Charles was born in Burtonsville Dec. 25, 1930, son of the late Charles L. Duvall Sr. and the late Lucy Lee (Groomes) Duvall.  He proudly served his country in the Maryland National Guard.  

Mr. Duvall served as the vice president of Chantilly Crushed Stone in Virginia, working for the company for 72 years before retiring in 2002.  While only having a 10th-grade education, his knowledge in engineering was incredible as he helped build equipment that was eventually patented by the company he worked for.  He was also honored and named in the 2000-01 edition of the National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals.  Charles was a member of Line United Methodist Church, and loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Lucille, Edna and Mae.  He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Jean (Cherry) Duvall; four sons, Michael L. Duvall, Charles David Duvall, Robert Wayne Duvall and Gary Alan Duvall; a stepson, Thomas Cross, and a stepdaughter, Susan Inglesby, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, at Line United Methodist Church, 18725 Line Church Road, Delmar.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Charles’ name to Line United Methodist Church, PO Box 398, Pittsville, MD 21850.
