Charlotte L. Bailey, had great sense of humor

March 1, 2021

Charlotte L. Bailey, 87, of Milford passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021.

Charlotte was born in Milton to the late Hall D. and Clara (Richards) Reed Sr.  She was a hard worker.  She was a waitress and cook for many years at different restaurants in Sussex County, and when she decided that she had enough of that, she worked in a motel in Lewes for the remainder of her working years. She loved warm weather and being outside.  In her younger years during the summer, there were not many days that you wouldn’t find her at the beach, when she wasn’t working, of course.  Sunblock was not a known word in her vocabulary; the browner she could get, the better, and her friend baby oil helped her achieve that.

She enjoyed traveling to Florida and Colorado when she had the chance.  Charlotte didn’t sit still in one spot for very long; she always had to keep busy. She was a perfectionist and had a lot of pride.  She wouldn’t miss a hair appointment for anything, and everyone who knows her knows she dressed the best. She enjoyed gardening and would spend hours at time perfecting her flower beds.  She also enjoyed puzzles.  Charlotte was a huge fan of NASCAR. If there was a race on, she was watching it and she could tell you every detail about the race when it was over.

She was not afraid to speak her mind or “tell you how it is.”  She had a sense of humor like no other; she was a funny woman.  Her son and her grandkids were her world. She spent countless hours spoiling them every chance she could.  As she got older, she took on pottery and a lot of it.  She also learned to love Bingo and participated in paint classes as well.  She will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Bailey;  and sisters, Grace Reed, Ann Clifton, Thelma Davidson and Almira Wilkerson.

She is survived by her son, Charles “Mark” Cashdan (Denise); brothers, Hall D. “Sonny” Reed Jr. (Jeanette), and Howard Reed (Donna); grandchildren, Brandi R. Cashdan (Joseph) and Brandon M. Cashdan; and step-grandchildren, Wendy and Christy Rogers; and extended family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 6, at noon, in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m.  All those in attendance must wear a mask and adhere to social distancing and gathering protocols.
