CHEER honors retiring board member Pat Rust

May 24, 2019

CHEER Inc. held a retirement luncheon for Pat Rust of Georgetown May 21, to celebrate her 32 years of service to the nonprofit senior services agency.

Rust was hired in 1987 by former Executive Director Arlene Littleton to be a home health nurse. She retired in 1998 and started the CHEERful Notes Glee Club to occupy her time. Then, in 2002, Littleton invited Rust to become a member of CHEER’s board of directors. “What better person for the board than someone who had worked for CHEER,” Littleton said.

Rust told the gathering of CHEER staff, board members, family and friends that CHEER had been a lifesaver for her during the past 32 years. “I couldn’t stay home and do nothing,” she said. “As long as the Lord allows, I will be an advocate for CHEER.”

CHEER Chief Executive Officer Ken Bock called Rust “...an angel of mercy. Her hugs are genuine and sincere,” he said. “She is such an inspiration of faith because hers never wavers.”

Rust received several gifts of appreciation as well as legislative tributes from Sen. Brian Pettyjohn, R-Georgetown, and Rep. Ruth Briggs King, R-Georgetown.
