CHEER collecting senior gifts until Dec. 19
CHEER Meals on Wheels is seeking gift donations for seniors for its Operation Christmas CHEER program. Donations will be accepted from Monday, Nov. 28 to Monday, Dec. 19, at any CHEER Center in Sussex County.
On Christmas morning, volunteers deliver a complete roast turkey dinner, a poinsettia and a Christmas gift to seniors who have no family in the area. The volunteers are often the only person the seniors may see on Christmas Day, and the visit may bring their only holiday gift. Volunteers also supply pet food so the seniors do not have to share their Christmas meal with their pets.
Donations can simply be a generic wrapped gift with a tag indicating whether it is for a senior male, female, or either. Useful gift ideas include disposable razors, food/beverage sets, shampoo and body wash, deodorant and soap, face cloths and other personal items.
Any individual or organization wishing to support the program by volunteering to deliver a meal on Christmas morning, or donate a wrapped gift, nonperishable food item or pet food for Operation Christmas CHEER should contact Robin Greene at rgreene@cheerde.com or call her at 302-853-4199.
