Chef Kevin Reading to take part in chef cookoff Sept. 9
The Milton Historical Society announced that Chef Kevin Reading of Abbott's Grill will participate in the second annual King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cookoff and Basket Raffle fundraiser, set for 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, at Milton Fire Hall.
Reading is the owner and founder of Abbott's Grill in Milford and Abbott's on Broad Creek in Laurel. He has over 35 years of experience in the restaurant industry as a restaurateur and chef. A 1994 graduate of the Philadelphia Restaurant School, Reading went on to open the acclaimed Fox Point Grill in Wilmington that same year. In the following years, he ventured to southern Delaware to open Rehoboth Beach favorites Espuma and Nage. Reading has won several awards including Chef of the Year and Restaurateur of the Year. Most recently, he partnered with the owners of Mispillion River Brewing Co. to open Smyrna's first brewpub, Brick Works Brewing & Eats. Reading remains hands-on and highly active in front- and back-of-house roles in all three of his current ventures.
Tickets are $35 for MHS members who pay before noon on Friday, Sept. 8. Tickets purchased at the door will be $45. For the cost of admission, guests will be provided with cold appetizers, a small-plate portion of all participating chefs' offerings, ice cream donated by King's Ice Cream, complimentary water and soda, an event pint glass sponsored by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and a vote for the King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cookoff winner. A cash bar will offer a selection of wine and Dogfish Head beer.

Milton Historical Society's museum provides a no-cost educational experience for residents and visitors. More than 1,500 guests a year visit from all over the hemisphere. The museum hosts low-cost monthly educational lectures, quarterly new exhibits, school programs and library programs.
