Children’s Beach House hosts volunteer appreciation event

May 21, 2023

Children’s Beach House held an April 27 volunteer appreciation dinner and awards ceremony at its Lewes Beach facility to thank and celebrate the many volunteers who support the work d this nonprofit organization.

While handing out certificates of appreciation to each of the approximately 40 volunteers who attended, CBH Executive Director Richard Garrett described the work each person had performed in service to CBH’s children and families. He listed the volunteers’ work staffing fundraising events, reading to preschool children, maintaining the Lewes facility, greeting visitors at the front desk, portraying costumed characters and countless other services.

“Volunteers are at the heart of what we do here at CBH, and we couldn’t do our work without them. The main focus of our work is to help young people understand that they are valued and appreciated, and that they have amazing gifts and talents to share with the world. When they are surrounded by caring adults who are cheering them on, the kids see possibilities for their lives they might not have otherwise seen. And they gain the confidence to work toward those possibilities,” said Garrett.

Linda DiLouie of Lewes was presented with CBH’s Volunteer of the Year Award. Noting that she was often called upon for projects that require a laser-focused attention to detail, Garrett said, “[DiLouie is] an ace up our sleeve. She is a genius when it comes to organizing. Linda greets our kids, families and guests with a smile when she works in the front office, and she helps with everything from mailings to preparing materials for meetings and special events. Linda has truly become a part of our CBH family, and really, we just don't know what we'd do without her.”

Established in 1937, Children’s Beach House provides year-round support, weekend enrichment activities and summer camp programs for children with communicative disorders and children from under-resourced families. The organization’s Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center nurtures typically developing preschoolers as well as those with speech and language delays, hearing impairments and mild orthopedic challenges.
