Chinky Salt Oysters and Alaskawild Seafood at Milton Farmers Market July 3
Oysters and salmon will be among the fresh fare available at the Milton Farmers Market from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, July 3. The Chinky Salt Oyster Company returns with plump and delicious farm-raised oysters. These oysters are harvested from healthy oyster populations grown on Chinky’s private reefs, an environmentally sound practice that assures sustainability.
That’s the science part. The flavor part is for market visitors to experience at Chinky’s tent, where singles may be purchased to sample. Chinky’s Bakers Dozen offers 13 for the price of 12, with escalating discounts for larger orders. Oysters can be packaged to take home or to enjoy at the picnic tables on site.
More fresh and sustainable seafood is available from Alaskawild, where wild salmon, giant crab legs, halibut and other cold-water fish come straight from on-ship processing in Alaska to the tent at Milton Farmers Market. Alaskawild’s fish are caught only in tightly regulated areas within state waters, monitored by biologists to ensure against overfishing. Again, that’s the science/environmental part.
Here’s the taste part: Wild-caught salmon delivers a deeper flavor and firmer texture, and obviously contains no antibiotics, growth hormones or pesticides. Also, Alaskawild’s offerings do not have artificial coloring or preservatives. To place special orders, call 302-337-0710 in advance of Friday’s market.
There’s always live music to enjoy at the Milton Farmers Market, and Friday’s performance features Slinging Daisies, with singer/songwriter Kent Schoch delivering the vocals. The band’s trademark honkey-tonk rock offers a blend of rousing classic rock and soulful original tunes.
Anyone with a favorite need only make the request. Shaded picnic tables in front of the performance area provide the best seats in the house, and visitors are encouraged to settle in for the sounds as they enjoy a snack or meal from the many market sellers.
The Milton Farmers Market is on the corner of Union and Magnolia streets in downtown Milton from 3 to 6 p.m., Fridays, with free parking available on-street or in the large lot on Magnolia (with the exception of the Fourth Friday of each month, when the market moves to Dogfish Head Brewery).
Market visitors can select abundant freshly picked produce, crusty artisanal breads, scrumptious home-baked pastries and pies, delicious prepared dinners to be consumed onsite or at home; farm-fresh milk and ice cream, specialty items including honey from local hives, home-made jams, home-care products for bath and beauty; and everything needed to bring fresh and wholesome selections to the table, pantry or freezer.
