It has been said that there's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with chocolate.

The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park will host the 13th Annual Chocolate Tasting from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Officer’s Club in the park. Park entrance fees will be in effect.

The event features chocolate candy and baked goods prepared by local volunteers. Admission of $6 is good for six tastes. Additional tastes go for 50 cents each. Chocolate baked goods will be available for purchase to take home. Attendees are asked not to bring their own containers.

Co-chairs Barbara Schmidt and Ashley Schmidt said there will be raffles for a variety of items including one for a praying mantis figure created by Friends member Clyde Seibert. Drawings will be held through the afternoon. Raffle tickets will sell for $1 apiece or six for $5.

A family visit to the park offers a wide array of activities to help work off that chocolate high. There are trails to suit every walker. For a ride around the park, bicycles are available to borrow at the Bike Barn. Children can enjoy hours of fun on the equipment in the new playground. The whole family can play disc golf on the course across the street from the playground. And there are several accesses to enjoy the beach.

Proceeds will go to replenish the Richard and Mirth Thatcher Education Fund to help educators finance transportation for quality field trips to Cape Henlopen State Park for hands-on experiences with nature and history that can be provided through the park’s nature center.
