Delaware is following the same short-sighted path as Maryland and many other states. Instead of building a cleaner future, it is taxing EV and AFV drivers while doing little to reduce our dependency on oil.
I have already mailed letters to the governor, my senator and my representative about the new AFV fee. The fee itself is not the real issue. I pay more in service fees for my home solar system than for the energy I use, and I understand infrastructure has costs.
What concerns me is the lack of vision. Imagine if these AFV fees were reinvested into EV charging stations at Smyrna rest stop and across the state. That would show Delaware is serious about encouraging responsible choices, lowering emissions and preparing for the future.
Instead, this policy looks like pandering to the oil industry. We deserve better. Delaware should lead with innovation, not punish the very people helping to create a cleaner, healthier state.
Clean energy solutions deserve support, not taxation.
