Clear Space Theatre is returning to collaborate with Beebe Medical Foundation for a reader’s theatre fundraiser at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28.
Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Beebe Oncology Services and the Clear Space Theatre Arts Institute. This year’s play is “Terms of Endearment.”
Tables are $100 for a table for two or $200 for a table for four. Seating is limited due to COVID-19 safety measures. To purchase tickets, go to ClearSpaceTheatre.org or call the box office at 302-227-2270.
Adapted for the stage by Dan Gordon, “Terms of Endearment” is based on the screenplay by James L. Brooks. Challenges in life and love test the resilience of a mother-daughter relationship. Though Emma is often exasperated by her highly opinionated mother, Aurora, they talk every day about their problems, from Aurora finding unexpected love even as she becomes a reluctant grandmother, to Emma's struggles in her troubled marriage. This funny and touching story captures the delicate, sometimes fractured bonds between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, and lovers, both old and new.
For the third year in a row, Mary Caligiure returns to direct the reader’s theatre play. Caliguire recently directed Clear Space’s “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” and “The Women.”
“I am really excited to be directing another reader's theatre performance at Clear Space this year. This play is a bit different than the other reader's theatre performances insomuch that it is a much faster-paced show,” said Caligiure.
The show starts with a mother and her newborn baby, then catapults into a montage highlighting key points of the newborn's transition into the teen years and adulthood. “It's a show about relationships and communication, and how we sometimes get into our own way. It's a show about the fragility of life and the importance of letting down our guard. The audience is taken on a journey of laughter and tears all within a little over an hour,” she said.
“Clear Space Theater and the Beebe Medical Foundation have enjoyed a strong and loyal partnership over the years. I am so grateful to Clear Space for choosing our oncology services as part of the beneficiary of this production. No doubt, the arts are such an important part of our overall health and well-being,” said Thomas J. Protack, Beebe Medical Foundation president.
”Terms of Endearment” is sponsored by Morris James LLP, and the 2021 season is sponsored by Alice and Alfred Willis.
