Clear Space thinks out of theater box with video offerings

Singing video grams deliver personal messages
May 14, 2020

The Clear Space Theatre team thanks patrons for their continued support and patience as it modifies plans for the 2020 season.

Clear Space has canceled the live staged performances of  “High School Musical” and "Urinetown" to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, the actors are ready to perform. Clear Space students cast in “High School Musical”  have rehearsed a fully staged show.

The cast members of "Urinetown," who never had the opportunity to rehearse together, all learned their parts from home with only one musical rehearsal from Melanie Bradley, musical director, via the telephone and prerecorded choreography videos and tutorials from choreographer Candice Jewell.

In an effort to fulfill its mission as a theatre and its promise to patrons, Clear Space is producing highlight videos of both shows and will email them to ticket holders. The videos will include highlights from the shows and some comments from Director David Button. The videos, although not full productions, will bring the entertainment of the theatre home to patrons.

The loss of ticket sales is devastating to Clear Space. “We hope everyone will understand the hardship and consider the video a substitution for their tickets. Clear Space has never been in a situation like this. Its priority is to sustain the financial health of the company so we can open our doors once this pandemic is over,” said Carl Schloegel, board chair.

Clear Space continues its out-of-the-box thinking and is releasing new theatrical products for the community to receive via email.

The 90-minute video, “Window Karaoke Cocktail Party,” features actors performing different songs and sharing cocktail recipes.

The singing video gram is a digital version of the singing telegram. Clear Space performers will deliver a personal message and sing a selected song to the recipient of the video. This makes great option for birthdays or anniversaries, or just to say hello.

A new video will be available soon showcasing the talent of the 2020 summer repertory casts from “Sister Act,” “La Cage Aux Folles” and “Cabaret.”
