Coastal Concerts to present violinist Elena Urioste April 1

March 25, 2023

Coastal Concerts will present internationally celebrated violinist Elena Urioste in a free performance at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1, in the Bethel United Methodist Church Hall, Fourth and Market streets, Lewes.

A graduate of both Curtis and Juilliard, Urioste has given acclaimed performances as a soloist with major orchestras throughout the world. As an avid chamber musician, Urioste is the founder and artistic director of Chamber Music by the Sea, an annual August festival held on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

The outstanding instruments she uses are an Alessandro Gagliano violin, Naples c. 1706, and a Nicolas Kittel bow, both on generous extended loan from the private collection of Dr. Charles E. King through the Stradivari Society of Chicago. The program for the April 1 concert consists of three of the most iconic pieces written for solo violin: Heinrich I. F. Biber’s “Passacaglia”; J. S. Bach’s “Partita No. 2 in D Minor”; and Eugène Ysaÿe’s “Sonata No. 2, Obsession.”

Admission is free. However, in order to help ensure the concert is not oversubscribed, tickets should be reserved in advance at coastalconcerts.org.

This will be Urioste’s third appearance before a Coastal Concerts audience, following a February 2017 show with cellist Nick Canellakis, and a March 2014 show with pianist Michael Brown, both to enthusiastic audiences.
