Coffee-themed lessons invigorate learning at Milton Elementary

October 23, 2025

Milton Elementary teachers perked up some learning fun for their classes Sept. 29 with themed activities planned for National Coffee Day.

Third- and fourth-grade students arrived at school that morning to find their very own Starbucks cups waiting on their desks.

Throughout the day, they participated in coffee-related math problems and had the opportunity to guess how many coffee beans were in a jar. Since reading pairs well with a good cup of joe, at least for adults, a language arts activity centered on sorting books according to categories of fiction and nonfiction.

Students were given time to create personalized designs and decorate their coffee cups. Teachers from a different grade level then voted on the best coffee cup designs, earning students bonus points for their house teams.

“Our teachers do an amazing job making connections between daily life and what students are actively learning in the classroom,” said Dr. Clara Conn, Milton Elementary principal. “I love to see the excitement in students and staff alike when these lessons are brought to life.”
