Collins commentary brings back memories

September 17, 2024

Kudos to Ronald K.L. Collins for his history of notorious segregationist Bryant William Boles in the commentary “The Dangerous Demagogue: Part 1,” in the Cape Gazette’s Sept. 10 edition. I was a student at Millsboro High School (MHS ‘56) when Boles swooped into Delaware spewing his venom of racial hatred. His name was on everybody’s lips, as he succeeded in his quest of causing division. There was already a lot of division – brother against brother, father against mother, etc. – over the integration issue. Boles’ agitation just intensified it.

Many thanks to author Collins for his detailed and very accurate depiction of the Boles incursion. It brings back a lot of memories.
