August 9, 2021

The 13th annual Race for the Paws 5K in downtown Dewey Beach Aug. 7 asked and answered one question: “Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, pooch?”

“Great turnout of people and pooches,” said Race Director Tim Bamforth. “The event is a fundraiser and also raises awareness for animal rescue.”

There were 229 finishers, some attached to companion animals, who went the 5K distance or elected the shorter one-mile distance.

Colten Morris, 19, walked the dog on the chase pack, laying down a time of 16:26 to beat Caden Bell, 16, in 18:13 and Caleb Bradley, 19, in 19:06.

Genevieve DiBari, 21, was first woman in 19:21, followed by Amanda Hicks, 37, in 20:23 and Maria DiBari, 17, in 21:38.

Bill Pilkington, 50, was male masters winner in 21:22, while Susan Dunn, 44, won the female masters in 23:20.
