CVS Health completes rollout of time-delay safes across 45 states
Amid a busy holiday shopping season and as part of an ongoing commitment to support law enforcement and help build safer communities, CVS Health announced the installation of time-delay safe technology in 800 CVS Pharmacy locations, including those in Target stores, in 13 states across the U.S., including 22 locations in Delaware. With this latest installation of time-delay safes, CVS Health has now implemented the innovative technology in 45 states.
The safes are anticipated to help prevent pharmacy robberies and the potential for diversion of controlled-substance medications – including opioid medications such as oxycodone and hydrocodone – by electronically delaying the time it takes for pharmacy employees to open the safe. In addition, the safes are anticipated to benefit the safety and well-being of CVS Pharmacy patients, customers and employees.
The time-delay function cannot be overridden and is designed to serve as a deterrent to would-be pharmacy robbers whose goal is to enter and exit their robbery targets as quickly as possible. All CVS Pharmacy locations with this technology display visible signage warning that time-delay safes are in use to prevent on-demand access to controlled substances.
USDA awards $500K grant to Rosa Health Center
A U.S. Department of Agriculture Emergency Rural Health Care in the amount of $510,900 was recently awarded to the Rosa Health Center Inc. This investment will be used to support staffing costs associated with COVID-19 vaccination and testing efforts. This investment will allow members of the underserved, uninsured and under-insured minority community, most of whom are Hispanic, to have equal access to care related to COVID-19. The Rosa Health Center serves the most vulnerable and underserved populations in Georgetown. The Biden-Harris administration is making this Emergency Rural Health Care Grants Program funding available through its historic legislative package, the American Rescue Plan Act.
“The COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacted our healthcare system, especially in rural communities,” said David Baker, USDA Rural Development state director for Delaware and Maryland. “These Emergency Rural Health Care Grants will help critical services continue to serve our rural population, especially the most vulnerable members.”
