Bingo night to benefit Milton Community Foundation June 8

The Milton Community Foundation will host a bingo fundraiser at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 8, at Milton Fire Hall. Admission is $20 with a reservation or $25 for walk-ins. To reserve a seat, call 302-684-5956 or email miltoncommunityfoundation@gmail.com. Payment for admission will be at the door by cash or check. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. In addition to bingo, there will be 50/50 raffle, door prizes, food and beverages. This fundraising night helps the MCF provide community support, projects and programs.

MCF and the Milton Historical Society held a plaque dedication event last year to honor Miltonian Bryan Stevenson. The foundation also helped sponsor summer concerts in the park and the Christmas tree-lighting event. With community support, MCF donations were made to the Cape Henlopen High School Cap and Gown Initiative as well as a $3,000 donation to the town for a water bottle refill station in Milton Memorial Park.

Coastal Sussex NARFE to meet June 8

Coastal Sussex Delaware Chapter 1690 NARFE will meet at 12 p.m., Thursday, June 8, at 1776 Steakhouse in the Midway Shopping Center between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. Reservations are required by 5 p.m., Thursday, June 1, to Mary Hucker, maryliz@comcast.net.

Speaker will be Dan Shortridge, who has written various books with his wife Rachel Kipp about places to visit in Delaware. The May speaker was Father Anthony Giamello, Delaware Air National Guard,166th Airlift Wing chaplain, who gave a very informative presentation.

Veteran benefits info session set online June 8

CHEER Inc. will partner with the Wilmington VA Medical Center Outreach Team to host a virtual PACT Act benefits meeting for veterans from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, June 8. The PACT Act is a historic new law that expands VA health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances. The law empowers VA to provide generations of veterans and their survivors with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve. However, many veterans don’t know how the PACT Act affects them or how to apply for benefits. For more information and to attend, go to cheerde.com and click on the Zoom link. The broadcast will be shown at all CHEER activity centers and can be accessed by the public. Explore Sussex County’s queer history June 9

The public is invited to join Carolanne Deal at 5 p.m., Friday, June 9, outdoors in Zwaanendael Park near the Zwaanendael Museum for an exploration of the Queer History of Sussex County. This program will highlight some of the people, places and material culture Deal researched for Delaware’s LGBTQ+ Community: A Research and Digital Engagement Project. A new museum exhibition featuring objects from Delaware's LGBTQ+ history will also be discussed. Admission is free; for details, call 302-645-1148 or email zmuseum@delaware.gov.

Lord Baltimore Lions set yard and bake sale June 10

The Lord Baltimore Lions Club will hold its annual yard and bake sale from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, June 10, at Lord Baltimore Elementary School, 120 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View. Goods available include household items, clothing, sporting equipment, tools, kids’ toys, mechanical items, bicycles, books and DVDs. No televisions or old VCR equipment will be accepted for donation or available for purchase.

A variety of cakes, pies, cookies and other baked items will be sold. Proceeds benefit the charities Lord Baltimore Lions Club supports on behalf of the community.

AARP sets shred events June 10, 24

AARP Delaware will host shredding events from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 10, in Bridgeville, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 24, in Georgetown. To register for a time slot to attend and receive location information, go to events.aarp.org/ShredBridgeville and events.aarp.org/ShredGeorgetown. The events are part of AARP’s fraud-prevention efforts statewide. Shredding old bank statements, credit card bills, Medicare cards and anything else with personal information on it is the best thing consumers can do to prevent identity theft. Attendees will receive AARP fraud information and giveaway items. Registration is required. 

UUSD to meet June 11

The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold an in-person and livestreamed service at 10 a.m., Sunday, June 11. Julie Keefer, director of music ministries and the UUSD choir, will share songs of peace and love from all over the world. For more information, go to uussd.org.

Zion UMC to host Lank memorial hymn sing June 11

Zion United Methodist Church will hold its seventh annual Albert Lank Memorial Hymn Sing from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 11, at 26743 Broadkill Road, Milton.

All are welcome to enjoy selected local musical acts and sing some favorite hymns in the historic Zion church. Light refreshments will follow in the church hall.
