Construction moves forward at Plantation Lakes near Millsboro

New community offers a variety of amenities
August 16, 2011

Even as construction continues on new townhouses, single-family homes and some of the amenities at Plantation Lakes, a new community just off Route 24 in Millsboro, some units are already occupied and the anticipation is building for prospective new homeowners like current Rehoboth resident Karen Williford.

“This is just so pretty out here,” Williford said. “It’s kind of nice to have a piece of the country instead of only the beach, which I can’t even get to in-season.”

Williford anticipates moving with her husband, Phil, from their current residence on the eastern end of Route 24 near Rehoboth, to the Millsboro community of Plantation Lakes by November, when construction of their new three-bedroom townhouse is completed.

Originally the couple said they were shopping for a new house for relatives who would be relocating to the Cape Region, but after they saw the layout, location and featured amenities at Plantation Lakes, they considered a move of their own.

Originally from the Washington, D.C. suburbs, Phil said he was sold on that first visit to Plantation Lakes.

“I thought, ‘This is really nice; I bet it is going to be expensive,’” Phil said. “Then I found out it was $159,900, starting, and I thought, ‘This is a lot of house for that price.’”

After he found out that this price included all options, such as Energy Star appliances, natural gas stoves, ceramic tile or real hardwood flooring, home automation and countless other upgrades, he said he was prepared to buy.

“We really love the spacious layout, and the bathroom is just huge with a Jacuzzi,” Phil said. “I just love the spacious bath and the Jacuzzi tub. I see that kind of thing only in luxury, high-end houses.”

But with low homeowners association fees that include lawn maintenance, snow and trash removal, a future pool and clubhouse as well as a five-hole golf course that is currently open to residents, but also under expansion, he said the price was right and he’s ready to move when his unit is completed.

Even with all the bells and whistles, the staff at Plantation Lakes, including salesperson Leah Charnock, really amplifies convenience of location, location, location for this new community.

“We have a great spot,” Charnock said. ”We are 14 miles from Bethany, 17 miles from Rehoboth, a half-hour from Ocean City, and it literally is only a couple hours from Washington, D.C. and Philly.”

Lennar kicks off 'Hometown Heroes' initiative
Even as Lennar Corporation, the builders of homes in Plantation Lakes and nearly a dozen other communities in Delaware and Maryland, work to complete the new community in Millsboro before year-end, spokespersons said the company has launched a new campaign to honor those potential homeowners who work in public service.

After launching a “Hometown Heroes” initiative at the start of August, Lennar Maryland Division President John White said his company hopes to help public servants like educators, firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement agents, active military and healthcare professionals get into a new home with a credit up to $1,500 toward their purchase.

“Our Hometown Heroes program was created to honor the unsung champions of our local communities and help make their dreams of owning a home come true,” White said.
