Coolspring Presbyterian Church hosts New Castle Presbytery

About 200 Presbyterian Church members recently gathered at Coolspring Presbyterian Church for a meeting of the New Castle Presbytery.
Jim Moseley, New Castle Presbytery executive presbyter, said the presbytery comprises Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore, containing 52 congregations. He said the area has about 10,000 constituents.
Moseley said in 1681, the Rev. Francis McKemmie arrived in this area, and by 1683 he had begun establishing churches.
“In the New Castle Presbytery, we have a cluster of the oldest congregations of Presbyterianism in the United States,” Moseley said.
He said the recent meeting is one of five being held this year.
“The meetings are for the purpose of empowering ministries and missions. We also have nominations of people to serve on our committees and commissions.
“We worship at each and every meeting; we receive guests who are sometimes overseas missionary workers and who are sometimes from other agencies or different denominational groups. We build fellowships,” Moseley said.
