Nassau Valley Vineyards, Delaware’s premier award-winning winery, is turning 30 this October.
Aside from being the first commercial vineyard and wine producer on the Delmarva Peninsula, and changing the laws of the state of Delaware to allow for the production and resale of alcohol, thereby starting the state’s craft beverage industry, Nassau Valley has another claim to fame. Since opening in 1993, Nassau Valley has hosted nearly 400 weddings.
In honor of all the couples who chose to start their married life at Nassau Valley Vineyards, the winery will host Our Family Started Here from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7. Planners need the public’s help. While they have reached a number of those couples, the passage of 30 years has seen changes in addresses, phone numbers and emails. A computer crash that lost data from the earliest years compounds the difficulties of trying to reach everyone.
Anyone who knows a couple who was married at Nassau Valley Vineyards is asked to relay this information to them.
Nassau Valley Vineyards founder and co-owner Peggy Raley-Ward said, “I’ve always considered it an honor to serve those folks who choose to spend one of the most important days of their lives with us. Whether couples are married on-site, or in a church or at the beach, the fact that the celebration and party that brings together their family and friends to send them off in life together happens here means an exponential amount of love and happiness has occurred here. We want those couples and their families to come back and remember how that felt.”
The event will be a party for the whole family. The Cape Region’s favorite party band, The Funsters, will provide the groove. There will be kids’ activities, great food and beverages, desserts by 2 Little Bakers, formal and informal photo setups, and an opportunity for renewal of vows. One lucky couple will win a two-night, oceanfront getaway at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in Rehoboth Beach including breakfast and a dinner.
Tickets are required. Nassau Valley Vineyards wedding families or friends are asked to contact Peggy or Pam at events@nassauvalley.com, or call 302-645-9463. The winery is also asking couples to provide their favorite wedding photo to be used in a special display.
