Crooked Hammock events for Brandywine SPCA start Jan. 17

Brewery to donate proceeds from every pint of beer now through March
January 12, 2019

Crooked Hammock Brewery, now in its fourth year, is no stranger to man’s best friend, with its year-round, dog-friendly beer garden. The brewery continues its three-month community support program for the new year, bringing beer lovers and dog lovers together to raise money for Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown.

“Over the past three years, we have had the pleasure of working with some really great organizations and are nothing short of grateful for the support the restaurant and these groups receive from the community as a whole,” said Erica Wiegman, marketing coordinator of La Vida Hospitality, which manages the brewpub and restaurant. In just three years, the group has raised close to $19,000 with its beer-based community outreach events to support local nonprofits including Lewes Public Library, first responders and Clear Space Theatre.

This year’s recipient , Brandywine Valley SPCA, helps care for more than 13,000 animals each year, providing placements and finding homes for at least 96 percent of the animals that go through its shelters. The BVSPCA works to provide these animals and their new owners with a variety of care such as medical attention, vet services, and behavior teams to help with the transition from adoption into the home.

“As a business owner in a variety of service industries, as well as an animal advocate, I am grateful to be able to combine my work and my passions in an effort to help our homeless animal population. I’m looking forward to working with both Brandywine SPCA and La Vida on this joint fundraising mission to create awareness and help place as many animals as possible in their fur-ever homes,” said Tara Lausch, owner of Soulfish Tribe, Get Your Wag On Pet Services and Tara Lausch Photography, the three sponsors for the monthly awareness events that will occur at the restaurant.

Throughout January, February and March, Crooked Hammock will donate 25 cents to Georgetown’s Brandywine Valley SPCA from every pint of beer sold. It will also host monthly events to extend awareness of and raise funds for the BVSPCA.

The Beers for Barks campaign begins with a yappy hour kickoff public event from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17. Local dog-friendly vendors will showcase their wares, and dogs will be available for adoption.

The brewery will host Tara Lausch Photography for a special dog-kissing booth photo op at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7.  Speed dating - for dogs - will also take place with adoptable dogs from the BVSPCA. Attendees may bring in their dogs to play with potential new friends.

In an hour-long buti yoga class led by Soulfish Movements at 10 a.m., Sunday, March 3,  participants will begin to change their bodies through movement and mind-set. Following the class, there will be brunch and adoptable dogs available. Tickets are $35, and 50 percent of all proceeds will go to BVSPCA. To purchase tickets, go to www.crookedhammock.com

Crooked Hammock Brewery, Restaurant and Backyard Beer Garden is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.,  Sunday to Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.,  Friday and Saturday, year-round, at 36707 Crooked Hammock Way in Lewes.
