Cub Scout Pack 95 camps out at Cape Henlopen State Park

November 18, 2025

Cub Scout Pack 95 from Georgetown spent the Oct. 24-26 weekend camping at the primitive youth campsite at Cape Henlopen State Park. There were 17 scouts, six leaders and three parents in all. This included scouts in the Lion, Tiger, Bear and Webelos dens.

They arrived Friday night, set up camp, enjoyed a snack and went off to bed. Saturday was a beautiful day. Each den had assigned cooks for breakfast as well as those assigned for cleanup. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage were enjoyed by the dens. After cleanup, den leaders and scouts focused on their game plans for the day.

The Lions and Tigers stayed at camp and worked on fire-building skills. The Bears hiked to the Fort Miles Museum area, checked out the cannons, then headed to the observation tower to climb the 113 steps and see what they could see. It was a beautiful, clear day, so they could actually see New Jersey. After heading back down the 113 steps, the scouts hiked back to camp, a total of 3 miles, just in time for lunch. The Webelos were also hiking, but they headed to the Gordons Pond Trail. They went halfway and then headed back to camp, a total of 4 miles, and again, just in time to fix their lunch.

After lunch, the Bears practiced their whittling skills on bars of soap while other scouts enjoyed free play time. Next came the hike to the beach for some recreation time with Frisbees and soccer balls. It was still a beautiful day, and everyone had a great time. They even found a moon jellyfish. Leaders gathered all the scouts for a group picture on the jetty rocks before heading back to camp.

Dinner was the next item on the schedule, so the cooks, with the help of the leaders, prepared hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, fruit and drinks. The Webelos also enjoyed homemade french fries. After dinner, the scouts assigned for cleanup took charge.

Later, the scouts and leaders circled around the campfire, where they enjoyed Native American songs and chants of the Cherokee Indian Tribe, led by one of the parent chaperones. Lots of laughter and fellowship was enjoyed by all. For snack time, the Webelos cooked brownies in a Dutch oven while the Lion, Tiger and Bear dens enjoyed their own treats. The scouts had a busy day and were pretty tired, so the Lion, Tiger and Bear dens got settled in their tents for the night. The Webelos, as the older scouts, were allowed to stay up until 10 p.m. After all scouts were in bed, the leaders sat around the campfire sharing stories about scouting.

The pack extends thanks to all the den leaders and parents in attendance for making this a great weekend experience. For several scouts, it was their first campout, and they are ready to go again.
