CV19 6-Pack Series wraps up April with 225 raising $10,000

Event includes runners from 25 states
May 1, 2020

The Coronavirus 6-Pack Racing Series, held through the month of April, gave runners and walkers an outlet, something to do, something to look forward to. It allowed them to set a goal and run and walk to achieve it. Most important, the series gave the participants a chance to give back and raise much-needed money for charities while doing something they love to do.

The series was hosted by the local Seashore Striders, and every day of the month, results were sent in with photos of the watch or program showing the time and distance; most participants sent in a post-run selfie as well. From Delaware, as far west as Washington state, and all the way up and down the East Coast from Maine to Florida, the series attracted runners and walkers who came together for a great cause and had fun doing it.

The top charity was Beebe Healthcare COVID-19 Relief Fund, for which $2,525 was raised.

Distances completed during April are 1 mile, 3.1 miles, 5 miles, 6.2 miles, 10 miles and 13.1 miles, making up the 6-pack. Participants were able to run the distance as many times as they wished and in any order. Two participants even did every event for 38.4 miles in the same day. Official results will appear in next week’s Cape Gazette due to participants having till midnight April 30 to submit performances for verification.

CV-19 Team Challenge

The Seashore Striders will offer a similar challenge for 19 days in May, this one having a bit of a team twist to it. Teams of three will be required with each team member handling two of the same distances that were offered in April, as well as completing a 5-miler on May 24. The team challenge event will have male, female, coed and K9 divisions, and will also require a donation to one of the five nonprofits as well as a volunteer component.

The challenge will be rolled out Friday, May 1, and will run from May 6 to 24. Visit www.seashorestriders.com for more information.

27th Masser 5-Miler

The kickoff event of the 30th annual Seashore Striders Summer Racing Series will be the Virtual Masser 5-Miler, to be held Sunday, May 24, in any location, any town, any state. The Summer Racing Series will have a much different look this time around, but plans are being finalized to still have the popular series which draws runners from all over the country. The series will likely be shortened this year with the first half of the summer going virtual and the second half hopefully back to some kind of normal. More information will be announced in the next two weeks regarding the summer schedule. Please keep checking the Seashore Striders webpage at www.seashorestriders.com for updates.

JWJ 5K Goes Virtual

The popular Justin’s Beach House 5K Run and 2-mile Walk will be held as a virtual event. You can run and walk anywhere during Memorial Day weekend (May 22-25), with treadmills included. Participants will still receive the event tech shirt, commemorative running bib, and an opportunity to share their finishing time on the official race website. Visit www.focusmultisports.com to get registered.

Delaware Restaurant Relief Fund Virtual Challenge

Several runners are taking part in the Delaware Restaurant Relief Fund Virtual Challenge that started April 15 and will end May 15. Participants walk or run to support local restaurants and breweries that host races2run events. Use this challenge as a motivation tool to stay active, compete against family and friends, or just support those who are not working in the hospitality field during this difficult time. Remember, you have one month to run the distance you have chosen. The runs can take place in your neighborhood, along your favorite trail, or on your treadmill. The runs include: 87.6 miles, the distance between The Deer Park and The Starboard; 26.2 miles, the distance between Bayheads Brewing Co. and Trolley Square Oyster House; and 13.6 miles, the distance between Kelly's Logan House and Caffe Gelato. Visit www.races2run.com for more information.
