A damn good Joe ... Hoechner

February 17, 2023

Thank you, Joe, for 13 years of service to the wonderful town of Lewes on the planning commission. Hats off! Mayor and council honored you at this past Monday’s meeting. You spoke briefly about the amount of effort and hard work that went into your service, and be assured, it has never gone unnoticed. Your command of the Lewes zoning code and the important city comprehensive plan that carries the force of law should be a case study to all who are called to serve.

Mayor Andrew Williams recognized and complimented you as well, noting a unique trait as an outlier. As defined, an outlier is an individual that is markedly different from the normal in some respect. Indeed! In a world of massive subjectivity and closed-minded bias, it was refreshing that Joe, the outlier, did his homework and was willing to call balls and strikes in an effort to diminish confrontation and legal pitfalls. A Nietzsche quote: "All things are subject to interpretation, whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.” I prefer truth. Joe, it seems to me that you were not a Don Quixote in an absolute battle with windmills and chasing the impossible dream, but rather a seeker of truth. This endeavor is where beauty and fulfillment intersect. Best wishes.
