DAR at library helps researchers find African-Americans’ heroes

August 13, 2025

Leading historian and Black history researcher Cheryl Gooch, PhD, joined members of the Col. David Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at the Lewes Public Library July 26 to help members of the community uncover information about their family heroes.

Using an Ancestry account at the library donated by the DAR chapter, and with support from chapter members, Gooch guided attendees in navigating Ancestry to learn more about their ancestors.

Participant Trina Brown-Hicks said finding information about her grandparents, including her grandfather's draft registration, made them feel real to her at this moment in time. Another attendee, Jymayce Wescott, said she appreciated learning how to navigate the Ancestry platform to continue her research.
