David F. Magee, charter boat captain

October 21, 2021

David F. Magee, 63, formerly of Georgetown and Rehoboth Beach, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

David was born Feb. 14, 1958, in Pennsylvania.  He moved to Rehoboth at age 11, with his father, Forrest Magee, a chemist at the then-Barcroft Co.  David was a 1976 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School.

Like his father, David was an avid and skilled fisherman and boater.  He held many jobs, but the one of which he was most proud was captain of his own charter boat, his beloved Grady-White “White Squall,” operating out of Indian River Inlet.  He ran charters with his wife Cathy, who was also a Coast Guard licensed captain.  When he didn’t have a charter, Dave could often be found fishing on White Squall for pleasure, anywhere from the “croaker canyon” to the Baltimore Canyon, and points in between.  David and Cathy retired to Murrells Inlet a few years ago.

Cathy preceded David in death.  David is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Robyn Magee of Chestertown, Md.; by three nephews, Jesse, Tyler and Nolan Magee; by his old friends in Sussex County; and by his constant companions, Lindsay and Sandy, both good dogs.
