Del Tech Owens celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with events through Oct. 15

Hispanic Heritage Month runs through Oct. 15, and Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus has scheduled a variety of events and activities to honor Hispanic heritage, and educate students and the community.
Scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, in the Arts & Science Center theater is a free showing of the 2014 film, “Cesar Chavez,” starring Michael Pena, America Ferrera, and Rosario Dawson. The film follows the life of American labor leader Cesar Chavez, who cofounded the United Farm Workers.
Other events scheduled for October include Learn the Latin Groove, a free salsa dancing workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Student Services Center dining hall. Award-winning poet, actor and writer Carlos Andros Gomez will be on hand from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the Arts & Science Center theater.
In Duolingo: Spanish to English Word Challenge - Delaware Tech, which will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the Student Services Center, students will be put to the test in a word game, and the top three finishers will earn monetary prizes.
A Community Resource Fair will take place from 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Student Services Center. This event will help continue Hispanic awareness by connecting through community resources as well as encouraging participants to volunteer.
From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, an Hispanic Recognition Event will take place in the Student Services Center dining hall; it will honor local leaders whose influence helped the Hispanic community. There will also be music and entertainment.
Hispanic Heritage Month events will also be occurring at Delaware Tech’s Terry Campus and Stanton and Wilmington campuses.
