Delaware Dems need to find solution to energy problem

September 5, 2025

Sen. Russ Huxtable’s statements that the federal government unwinding the permit process for offshore wind will directly impact Sussex County economic development and that it is an ideological fight that falsely tries to paint green energy as the bogeyman is off base.

It would be good if Sussex County growth was slowed. No matter where you look, homes are being built as fast as possible without regard to highways, sewers, electric/water availability, schools to meet the needs of the people moving in at a fast pace.

Democrats have been in charge of Delaware’s government since 1992 when Mike Castle left office. He was the last Republican to be governor. Where have the Democrats been on coming up with sources of electricity? Now because their Green New Deal is falling apart, they have no electric sources to fall back on. The Delaware Legislature also decided to close the Indian River power plant before there was anything to replace it.

Delaware is surrounded by nuclear plants in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Why hasn't this been explored? From what I understand, there are nuclear plants that can be constructed on sites with permitting happening in 18 months. Some of the new nuclear plants are being built on former nuclear plant sites.

Also, nuclear waste is now being incorporated into pharmaceutical use, so it is less of a problem, and waste sites are being created in western states. Permitting is still needed for transport.

I believe there is a climate problem that needs to be addressed. However, creating the Green New Deal to line the pockets of Democrat donors is not the answer. Look at all the yellow school bus companies the Green New Deal invested in. School districts bought these electric buses only to find out the companies went bankrupt. And now there is no service and parts, especially batteries. So buses are useless and districts are out of billions of dollars.

Delaware legislators need to start thinking beyond the end of their nose and come up with solutions for the zero electricity being produced in Delaware. And do not build any AI plants that require huge amounts of electric until the problem is solved.
