February 9, 2011

Secretary of Finance Tom Cook announced Kristopher Knight has been appointed the new director of the Delaware Division of Accounting.

Knight, who began his appointment Monday, Jan. 31, joins the division from KPMG LLP in Philadelphia, an audit, tax and advisory services firm, where he has worked for the past eight years.

In his most recent position as senior manager, Knight was responsible for audit engagements of various clients, including the University of Delaware and the state of Delaware.

Knight has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and is a licensed certified public accountant in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

“I am confident that my experience in management and finance will benefit Delaware and that I can contribute innovative ideas to enhance state government,” said Knight.

“At the same time, I am honored to be appointed to this position. It’s a great personal accomplishment, an exciting change in my career, and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

As director of the Division of Accounting, Knight will be responsible for overseeing internal controls, financial reporting and payroll for all Delaware agencies. Knight will provide leadership, direction and management of financial accounting for the state, as well as work with managers to direct the financials portion of Delaware’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

ERP manages and supports the state’s general ledger, assets, payables, receivables and billing, cash, budgeting, grants management, capital project costing, purchasing and procurement cards.

Knight will also be responsible for ensuring the release of timely and accurate financial information to state management and the public, and for Delaware’s comprehensive annual financial report, which outlines the state’s financial activities and balances each fiscal year.

“I am looking forward to working with Kris Knight,” said Cook. “He continually impresses me with his commitment to accuracy and his experience in large-scale audits.

“I believe his appointment to the Division of Accounting is a great match, and I am excited to see how he benefits our state in the years ahead.”
