Delaware FC holds summer camp at Cape

Delaware Football Club Soccer Camps held its Southern Delaware Camp June 23-27 on the Bermuda fields at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes. More than 40 players ages 6-14 took part in the five-day camp.

Delaware FC camps are for the soccer enthusiasts. The camp staff creates a fun and safe learning environment for players of all ages and abilities. Their mission is to provide athletes the foundation to improve and create a lifelong relationship with soccer.

Delaware FC’s south camps are run by Cape High boys’ and girls’ varsity coach Patrick Kilby. The summer camp staff comprises Dan Simmons, Madison Nichols, Rich Venere, Sara Kilby, Ava Brown and Charlotte Bjorklund. 

Delaware FC’s south camps are curriculum-based with training topics introduced each day. Topics include passing/receiving, attacking/finishing, defending and possession. The week culminates with fun camp games that summarize the week's topics in a fun and competitive atmosphere.

The next camp runs from July 7-11.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
