Delaware highway toll increases go into effect Aug. 15
The Delaware Department of Transportation announced drivers will pay more to travel on state toll roads when price increases go into effect Friday, Aug. 15.
The new prices are part of a revenue package passed with bipartisan support from the state House of Representatives and Senate. This is the first time the department has increased tolls and fees in a decade; the hike is necessary to continue funding needed infrastructure investments across the state in the years ahead.
The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles announced anyone who opens a new E-ZPass Delaware account through Sunday, Aug. 31, will receive a free transponder. Commercial accounts are excluded from the promotion. To learn more, go to ezpassde.com.
E-ZPass drivers operating a two-axle vehicle along Route 1 will see rates increase from $1 to $1.50 on weekdays at the Dover and Biddles toll plazas, with those rates increasing to $4 each on the weekends. Drivers currently pay $3 at each toll plaza for weekend travel.
Cash customers and non-Delaware E-ZPass accounts will pay weekday rates of $2.50 at the toll plazas and $6 on the weekends.
On I-95, the toll will increase to $5 for all two-axle vehicles at both toll plazas.
