Delaware to honor Ryan Ennis with Acts of Kindness Day

Each Kind Coin helps carry forward legacy
August 18, 2025

Delaware will come together Saturday, Aug. 23, for Acts of Kindness Day in memory of Ryan Ennis, a beloved local community member remembered for his generosity, faith and selflessness.

Even while battling stage four lung cancer, Ennis made it his mission to uplift others by supporting friends, strangers, local businesses and especially the local restaurant community. Since his passing June 15, his legacy continues through everyday acts of compassion that reach far beyond his own journey.

In recognition of his spirit, in 2023, the State of Delaware officially declared Aug. 23, Ennis’ birthday, as Delaware Acts of Kindness Day.

As part of the movement, his close friends and family created the Drop A Kind Coin project to encourage people to carry on his legacy. Kind Coins are wooden tokens engraved with a QR code. After a participant completes an act of kindness, they can give a coin to the person they have helped. The recipient of the coin can then scan the code, share their story at dropakindcoin.com, and pass the coin along later with their own act of kindness. Each coin becomes a traveling reminder of generosity, creating a chain reaction of good deeds across communities.

Coins are available at Dewey Post, Dewey Beer Company, and Hammer & Stain, or by direct messaging @btbunited on Instagram for a drop-off.

Local community members are encouraged to help celebrate Ryan Ennis’ legacy, one random act of kindness at a time.
