Delaware Master Gardeners virtual program set Oct. 3

September 28, 2020

The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension will host a program with Master Gardeners from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, via Zoom.

Designed for both novice and experienced gardeners, sessions will feature a variety of topics and an opportunity to network with gardeners including expert Master Gardeners.

Nancy Bell will lead Right Plant, Right Place. Participants will discuss the vital issues of light and moisture, and how these impact selecting plants for one’s landscape. Four basic situations will be highlighted: sun/dry, sun/wet, shade/dry and shade/wet. Learning to select the right plant for the right place will help ensure future gardening success.

Ron Simpson will present Gardening in a Changing Climate. This session will examine the causes and effects of climate change, both globally and locally. Attendees will then look at impacts to Delaware gardeners and discuss localized solutions. This presentation will finish with a discussion on activities that can mitigate the impacts of climate change beyond one’s own garden.

In Virtual Garden Tours, Delaware Master Gardeners will take attendees on a pictorial tour of their very different garden spaces. They will reveal their favorite plants, “don’t-ever-use” plants, and gardening successes and failures. Along the way, they will share valuable gardening tips and discuss everything from backyard composting to garden design. Together, they have countless years of experience gardening in Delaware.
