Delaware radio’s Jared Morris launches new album

October 12, 2019

Jared Morris, lead of the influential Delaware indie punk rock group My Version of It, released a new album with his band the Nice Price, Friday, Oct. 11.

“Dead Men Don't Bite Back” is a departure from his last album, the electronic “Black Dictum,” as it features big open-tuned guitars, pondering lyrics and a cover of a fake punk song written for 1986's “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.”

Named after a line in Robert Louis Stevenson's “Treasure Island,” “Dead Men Don’t Bite Back” was initially recorded in 2018 and was originally conceived as a country folk album. Morris hired a producer to mix the album, but after eight months of waiting for mixes, he grew tired of the process and decided to rewrite and rerecord the album with his band. The result is a loud, swarthy and contemplative album of sci-fi references, name-dropping and wordy rock songs.

Key tracks include “Everybody Hates The Sh8t I Do,” a meditation on life, death and being largely ignored in his creative pursuits.

“Mr. Rhythm's Good Advice” takes its name from the famous line in Mr. T's feature film “DC Cab.” It is a talk rock rant on the amount of plastics and contamination in the oceans and the artificiality of today’s culture.

“I Hate You (from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)” is the album's sole cover song. It was originally performed by the fictitious punk band Edge of Etiquette, written for the bus scene in the film, and reconstructed here by Jared Morris and the Nice Price.

Morris is the front-man and songwriter for the band’s My Version of It and Year of the Comet, with whom he has released seven full length albums and seven eps.

He also plays guitar and serves as primary songwriter in the riot punk band Sh*t Kittens with a debut album due early 2020, and the doom-metal nursery-core band Doctor Goose whose “Good For The Gander” is out now on 10x Records.

Morris also plays guitar in several Delaware bands, most notably Bessemer Process and Grave Mistake.

Listeners can hear “The Jared Morris Rock Show” weekends on Classic Rock 103.5 and 102.9FM The Vault.
