Delaware receives $49 million for early learning programs

Delaware is the recipient of $49.9 million federal Race To The Top - Early Learning Challenge funds, with a focus toward improving the quality of early care and education services provided to children ages birth to five to ensure that children come to kindergarten with the foundation of skills they need to be successful learners.
Several of Delaware’s key RTTT-ELC leaders recently completed two days of meetings with the U.S. departments of education and health and human services/Race To The Top - Early Learning Challenge staff around implementation strategies and practices for the nine states that were awarded R2T-ELC grants.
The focus of the meeting was to expand on each state's grants plans for implementation of their respective Tiered Quality Rating Improvement Plans. For Delaware, that would be the state's Delaware Stars for Early Success program. States participated in discussions focusing on implementation, monitoring and sustainability initiatives. Dr. Jim Lesko was a panelist addressing Delaware's preliminary strategies for later sustainability initiatives of R2T-ELC project activities.
