Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown held its 2019 Commencement May 14. This year, 660 academic awards and 518 associate degrees were awarded, 10 bachelor of science in nursing degrees were awarded and 12 students received degrees in two or more categories. 289 students graduated with academic excellence, 64 students earned summa cum laude and 15 students earned a perfect grade point average of 4.0. Women made up 66 percent of the student body, and 28 percent of the student body was minorities. The oldest student was 68 and the youngest was 18, with the average age 28. There were also 20 veterans in the student body.

Keynote speaker Fay Blake is the executive director of Pathways to Success, which provides in-school and after-school mentoring to at-risk youth. In her address, Blake said, “You have an awesome opportunity to write whatever is in your new chapter in the next thing you do.”
