Delaware Tech holds Multimedia Arts Showcase

Students’ work recognized at Milton Theatre
May 10, 2018

The Communications Department of Delaware Technical Community College held a Multimedia Arts Showcase April 25 at the Milton Theatre, highlighting the dynamic efforts of students throughout the year, and the work they have created.

This fourth annual event, held at the end of each spring semester, focuses on the devotion of students to their craft, in concentrations including: creative writing, film, photography, videography and graphic design. This collaborative effort among students, staff, and the Milton Theatre demonstrated the wide range of skills and talents that the students possess, while honoring the Class of 2018.

Guests were able to immerse themselves in multiple artistic mediums that were created by both current students and the graduating class. The Milton Theatre transformed itself into a modern-day art gallery that featured different sections of work depending on the concentration, while also streaming a multicamera production for those who could not make it to the event on YouTube Live.

Family, friends, Delaware Technical school staff, and even business owners had the chance to view diverse styles of art and multiple video presentations while interreacting with students regarding their work.

Brandon Paul (aka DJ Magellan), opened the ceremonies by explaining the importance of the impact that this program at Delaware Technical Community College had on his life. "I owe a lot to Del Tech. Graduating from this program was one of the best things that has ever happened to me because I was ready to enter a career in which I was so passionate about since a young age. Offerings of different classes and internship requirements eased me into an ever-growing arts and communications industry that is continuing to grow exponentially. The connections that I have made with this department helps me consider them a part of my family due to their constant help and guidance contributing to shaping a bright future for me. Not only have I succeeded, but there are endless success stories from graduates that learned the skills to enter a position that they have always dreamed about."

Following the opening presentation, Department Chair of the Communications Program Rob Rector took to the stage to acknowledge all in attendance for their continuing support. "We are so glad to be able to hold this event for the fourth year in a row with thanks of all our students, staff, and, of course the Milton Theatre for allowing us to showcase our students' work at such a unique location. Thank you to all the people that put in the hard work to make this a memorable and magical night for our school. With the help of our amazing and talented instructors, our directors, and of course students, we can create an educational and artistic showcase that truly reflects the large spectrum of talents that our students possess."

After recognizing all in attendance and the drive that the students had to making tonight a more dynamic experience for guests, Creative Writers took the stage and shared pieces that were written based on the inspiration of photographs that were taken by the photography class; showing how "a picture is worth thousand words." Next, guests were treated to short video presentation projects that were put together by both the Intro to video and advanced Vvdeo classes. To end the program, students of the 2018 Communications Program Graduating Class were welcomed to the stage with cheers from family and friends, joining in to celebrating their accomplishments and all of those who participated in the show.

"We hold an event like this for many reasons; as it is great exposure for our students, it helps them feel like the rock stars that they really are, and after a long and stressful semester it is a great event to look forward to that truly celebrates the arts in our community especially among the youngest members. The Communications Department is always looking to take things to the next level with course offerings, which we have done recently by adding social media classes as well as classes dedicated to podcasts. Keeping up with the ever-changing industry is key to the success of our students and we want them to be as prepared and marketable as possible. As much as we step up to the challenge and use new and innovative course work, our students truly embody the adaptability and drive to be successful," added Rector.
