The third meeting was no different, as the Diamonds delivered a dominant 17–2 victory to capture the Region 19 Championship April 22 at DE Turf in Frederica.
“I could not be more proud of this group of young men,” said coach Dan Yearick. “What they accomplished speaks volumes about the hard work and commitment they showed from the very first day of fall ball. A 17-2 region championship performance does not happen by accident. It is the product of countless hours of work through the coldest winter I have ever coached, and a group of sophomores who set a standard that carried this team all season long. This is a very special group, and our entire coaching staff is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to help them succeed.”
“This game is a little bittersweet knowing it’s our last one at home,” said sophomore Landon Hudson. “But it feels great knowing we avenged last year’s loss. This group of guys is really close, and it’s awesome to win it with them.”
“We take enormous pride in representing the State of Delaware,” Yearick said. “We are thrilled to bring the region championship back to the First State.”
The team now sets its sights on the district championships this weekend with its first matchup against the College of DuPage of Glen Ellen, Ill., at 4 p.m., Friday, April 24, in West Windsor, N.J.
