DelDOT has kicked the can down the road

July 4, 2025

DelDOT has known Five Points has been a problem for 20 years (if not longer) and instead of just building an overpass, we’ve had years of studies and working groups. Their latest solution is a complete disaster. The road leading to the roundabout consistently backs up onto Route 1, bogging down the whole section south of the Nassau Bridge. Route 9 heading east toward Five Points? Always backed up past Redner’s. This isn't a seasonal problem, although tourist traffic certainly exacerbates it.

And how about the Route 1 and Route 16 project? Why build two bridges over Route 16, when they could’ve just built a single Route 16 bridge over Route 1?

Does anyone have any confidence DelDOT’s next plans at Minos Conaway Road and Cave Neck are going to fix any problems? I’d venture a guess it only makes things worse.

Unfortunately when DelDOT could’ve gotten ahead of the problem decades ago, it decided to drag its feet. Now we’re stuck with a total mess.
